"Microsoft has turned off its Windows Live Messenger service for five countries: Cuba, Syria, Iran, Sudan, and North Korea. Users in these countries trying to log in get the following error: '810003c1: We were unable to sign you in to the .NET Messenger Service.' Why now, since this flies in the face of the Obama administration's softening stance on Cuba? This isn't the first time the US Trade Embargo has had questionable outcomes. US-based Syrian political activist George Ajjan created a web site promoting democracy in Syria, only to find GoDaddy blocked anyone inside Syria from seeing it. The article argues, 'Messenger is a medium for communication, and the citizens of these countries should not be punished from such a basic tool because the US has problems with their governments' policies.' What does this say for the wisdom of non-US citizens relying on US companies for their business or communication?"

ICANN a dat drumul luni la primele adrese IPv6 pe sase din cele 13 servere principale. Se cam termina permutarile oferite de IPv4, permutari care ofera circa 4 miliarde de combinatii de IP-uri. Majoritatea site-urilor folosesc IPv4 iar cele cu adrese pe IPv6 trebuia sa foloseasca pana acum acelasi protocol. IPv6 va oferi - tineti-va bine - 340 de trilioane de trilioane de trilioane de adrese unice. Cum spunea un prieteni vechi acum vreo 5 ani - "cu IPv6, pana si ghiveciul cu flori va avea IP-ul lui propriu".

"BitDefender has released what it claims is the first vaccination tool to remove the notorious Conficker virus that infected some 9 million Windows machines in about three months. The worm, also known as Downadup, exploits a bug in the Windows Server service used by Windows 2000, XP, Vista, Server 2003 and Server 2008. It spreads primarily through a buffer overflow vulnerability in Windows Server Service where it disables the operating system update service, security center, including Windows Defender, and error reporting. The Romanian security vendor said its removal tool will delete all versions of Downadup and will not be detected by the virus."

A apărut Bash 4.0
"The widely used Bourne-Again Shell (BASH) version 4.0 is out. The new major release fixes several remaining bugs in the 3.x releases, and introduces a bunch of new features. The most notable new features are associative arrays, improvements to the programmable completion functionality, case-modifying word expansions, co-processes, support for the `**' special glob pattern, and additions to the shell syntax and redirections. The shell has been changed to be more rigorous about parsing commands inside command substitutions, fixing one piece of POSIX non-compliance. Most of us will probably wait for the distros to test the new version and upgrade gradually, but you always have the option of grabbing the source and compiling it yourself. Enjoy."

We are very pleased to announce the availability of the "Hooray... new features" phpBB 3.0.3 package.
This version has seen numerous stability fixes, performance tweaks and general bugs fixed. Apart from some tiny new features, this version also introduces two major new features: template inheritance and a post-based queue.

Please note that we urge you to update. The versions we currently support here are phpBB 2.0.23 and phpBB 3.0.3. Bug submissions and incident reports for older versions will be closed.
